Empire first opened its doors back in 2003, when owner Trent Stevenson arrived back from overseas and realised the great city of Lower Hutt was lacking a specialist Skate shop. Originally located in Queensgate mall, after 6 months the shop moved to a more appropriate location, 92 Queens Drive, and has been there ever since. From day one Empire’s goal has been to stock the best local and international Skateboarding and Streetwear labels.

In 2007 Empire opened an additional store in Wellington city, located directly across from Waitangi skate park at Chaffers Dock. Along with the expected top range of product, the new store has a cafe area where we pump out Havana coffee and delicious Empire Gelato & Sorbet made on site. So come and check us out for all your Skateboard and clothing needs plus pick up a coffee or an ice cream while you're at it.

Being an independently owned shop Empire offers service and knowledge in a friendly environment. Your local skate shop has and always will be the backbone of a Skate community, and Empire is a perfect example of this - contributing to the culture in many ways, from our strong team of local sponsored riders, annual Skate competitions, school demos, plus throwing the occasional party here and there.
